Jonathan Klein is the chief program officer at the Rogers Family Foundation. He is responsible for investment strategy, partnership development, and community organizing to increase educational opportunity and student achievement in the City of Oakland.
In addition to his role with the Rogers Family Foundation, Mr. Klein serves as president of the Oakland Small Schools Foundation, a nonprofit building the capacity Oakland's new small schools in the areas of resource development, operations, and marketing. Mr. Klein served as the organization's founding executive director from 2003 to 2006.
Previously, he served as the special assistant to three state administrators for the Oakland Unified School District from 2006 to 2008, playing a critical role in ensuring the progress of Oakland Unified's Expect Success initiatives through three senior leadership transitions.
He was also the executive director of Teach For America's Bay Area region, during which the region raised more than $5 million to recruit, train, and support 400 teachers for Bay Area public schools.
Mr. Klein earned his Masters of Business Administration at the University of California at Berkeley and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Yale University. Mr. Klein is a 2008 graduate of the Broad Residency in Urban Education, an intensive two‐year management development program that trains emerging leaders for senior management positions within large school districts.
